W03 Reading Reflection: Shearing Layers

The lifecycle of a building is defined by many things; context, function, inhabitants, quality of construction, period of construction…
“Shearing Layers” looks at this lifecycle in a very physical way, in which the built environment is a test of time set upon a Site - Structure - Skin - Services - Space Plan - Stuff model (p. 13). But I believe around that is another layer around this; Society.

The behaviour of a building is a direct result of the people and society that surrounds and inhabits it.
