W12 Exemplar: Play Parks

Water. Urban Art. Playspace. Texture. Nature.

We enjoy comfort: comfort of known materials, comfort of scaled space.

We are challenged by difference: Unfamiliar texture & shape, contorted space.

By achieving a borderline of comfort and unfamiliar, you have the opportunity to push people outside of their normal comfort zone into a place of exploration and playfulness. The diversity of texture, material and play type can be seen in the images below:

The use of urban art, water fountains and changes in scale have been used to challenge the user (child) to explore and interact with spaces that are not standard to regular design. These kind of implementations will be used within Paddington Central to challenge and excite users of the parkland.
