W10 Lecture Reflection

Lecturer: Alexis Sanal

Understanding space as more than the physical. Creating a story and a depth to understand and develop spaces beyond face value.

Art & About (Sydney) creates a wonderful exemplar of a front supported by an entire city. It is supporting city exploration and creates an alternatively interesting aspect to the Sydney landscape.

By capturing moments of a city, the user can experience these moments as they were created, whilst filling the spaces in between with movement, interest and a sense of excitement.

When directed to a place to view and experience, it connects the user to a greater community. Experiencing what others have felt before, and setting up echoes of experience for the future. As the sites become more popular, they may evolve and change. These places become no longer a place just to see, but a place of gathering and interest.

There is a paradigm shift from the momument viewing (urban art piece) to the space encompassing it that facilitates a community gathering.

Through Paddington Central, I would like to achieve this effect. Drawing the community in with architecture and amenities, but it eventually evolving into a place for experience and gathering. Space created by its inhabitants, not the architecture.
