W02 Lecture Reflection

Apart from being horrifically intimidating, Robots of Brixton gave an inspirational way of storytelling and setting a scene for future realities. The subtle way in which architectural eventualities were shown created a fear of future decay but also a deep nostalgia, which was eventually explained:

“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce” Karl Marx

The idea that the future repeats itself is a very simple idea that has been extrapolated through history, from the social; financial crises, wealth & building booms, wars, to the natural; weather patterns, evolution, cyclical climatic changes of ice ages. It seems we go through life expecting the predictable to change:

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” Albert Einstein

This idea may be a way to predict the potential futures for Brisbane…
